The Burkittsville Preservation Association, Inc. received a substantial donation from the Antietam Institute for the preservation of the Hamilton Willard Shafer Farm.
The Shafer farm was used by Union General Wm. Franklin as his headquarters during the Battle of Crampton’s Gap (Battle of South Mountain) Sept. 14 1862.
