Greetings from South Mountain Battlefield! Earlier this week President & CEO Nicholas Redding visited our colleagues at The Battlefield at South Mountain. The Battle of South Mountain was fought on September 14, 1862 as part of the Maryland Campaign of the Civil War.

In 2019, with funding from the American Battlefield Protection Program of the National Park Service, the Delaplaine Foundation, and the Tourism Council of Frederick County, Preservation Maryland worked to develop a consensus-building plan for the South Mountain battlefield. The project involved collection of detailed GIS mapping data and the preparation of an in-depth report.

We remain committed to working with – and investing in the future of – the South Mountain Battlefield.
